From Gas Mask Filters to Kleenex

Did you know that the Kleenex brand’s story began during the First World War when Kimberly-Clark developed a cotton substitute crepe paper used as a filter within gas masks? In the early 1920s, the crepe paper innovation was adapted into a consumer product called Kotex, which was used for women’s feminine hygiene. Then they changed the product’s composition making it thinner and softer and re-naming it Kleenex. It was not only marketed as a cold cream and makeup remover, but it also became a popular replacement for a handkerchief.
